Naylors helps power Newcastle's Fintech boom with latest letting
January 2019
A financial technology start-up has moved into a newly refurbished city centre office suite in a deal secured by commercial property specialist Naylors.
Number 2 Collingwood Street, a grade-II listed luxury five-storey property in the heart of Grainger Town is now home to Kani Payments, an expanding Software as a Service (SaaS) international platform provider for large banks and other financial services firms.
And the company, which operates in London and Spain, as well as from its new Newcastle headquarters, is hoping the £500,000 high-spec refurbishment of the premises, coupled with its central location, will help it attract the best talent as it grows.
Kani Payments, named after the phonetic pronunciation of the Geordie ‘canny’, also meaning financially shrewd, is the first tenant to occupy the building since improvements were completed.
Jessica Ross, an associate director at Naylors’ office agency department, said: “This prominent building is striking both inside and out, providing the ideal environment for the workplace of the future, while also embracing the property’s magnificent history.
“The team at Kani Payments, who’ve taken a 1,150 sq.ft suite, knew how crucial finding the right office space was in helping them recruit brilliant software developers, and we’ve been delighted to help broker this lease.”
Aaron Holmes, CEO of Kani Payments added: “We’re delighted to have moved into 2 Collingwood Street and to make it our head office. The quality of the building and the location were really important factors for us, and we’re confident that our new office will help us both attract and retain the best of the regions FinTech experienced .Net and C# developers.
“Jessica and the team at Naylors were instrumental in identifying the right types of property for us, and we appreciated their flexibility and support in accommodating short-notice viewings and lots of requests for information. We’re now looking forward to growing globally from our Newcastle base.”
Around 6,000sq.ft of space remains to let at 2 Collingwood Street, where features include classic Georgian mosaic tiles and a wrought-iron balustrade, as well as cycle storage and shower facilities. This includes an impressive ground floor and basement facility of more than 3,000 sq.ft.
Naylors and Knight Frank are the joint letting agents for 2 Collingwood Street.
