Naylors secures letting to Sir Robert McAlpine at St. Nicholas Building
May 2017
Naylors has secured a letting to one of the UK’s leading engineering and construction companies at St. Nicholas Building in Newcastle.
Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd has signed a ten year lease on an 8,095 sq.ft suite within the landmark office building, which stands opposite St. Nicholas Cathedral.
Naylors is currently project managing a £1m capital investment project at the 64,175 sq.ft building, which the firm says will make it one of the most attractive Grade A office spaces in the city centre.
The letting follows Nathanial Litchfield & Partners’ move to the building last December, the firm took a 5,200sqft office suite in a deal also secured by Naylors’ office agency team.
Sir Robert McAlpine’s move comes as a result of the firm’s growing turnover and the need for a larger regional office that is better suited to their modern flexible working practices.
The firm is relocating 40 staff including regional management, estimators, buyers, ICT support and environmental managers. The new office also provides a centralised base for preconstruction teams, who would otherwise use temporary accommodation on live construction sites.
Mark Gibson, managing director for the North East at Sir Robert McAlpine said: “The specification of St Nicholas Building has enabled us to develop a solution to suit our specific working needs with high tech meeting rooms, a training department and comfortable canteen facilities for staff and visitors alike. We were keen to integrate the different departments within the regional office and to improve communications with the site teams. The new office is welcoming for all staff who can book workstations and offices via a centralised booking system that operates throughout the whole company. The feedback to date has been very positive.”
Simon Taylor, director at Naylors added: “Thanks to the major investment being made in the building’s specification, St Nicholas Building provides genuine Grade A office space in what is a restricted city centre market place. We are very pleased to welcome Sir Robert McAlpine who have had a regional office in Newcastle for over 30 years. We also have a further 19,000sqft under offer leaving only two suites remaining totalling 5,000sqft.”
Naylors was appointed as managing agent of St Nicholas Building in June 2015 following its acquisition by a private investor. The firm’s office agency department is working alongside LSH as letting agents for the building. Sykes Property Consultants acted on behalf of Sir Robert McAlpine.
